  3. Lorna Jowett

  • Lorna Jowett is currently Reader in Television Studies at the University of Northampton, School of the Arts (UK).

    Dr Jowett earned her PhD in American poetry at the University of Durham (UK), has a BA in English Literature, also from the University of Durham.

    Lorna has appeared on the Woman’s Hour radio programme and in international horror magazine Fangoria, given invited public lectures in the UK and US, as well as providing annual public talks for National Schools Film Week and contributing to regular Cult Film Club nights at the Errol Flynn Filmhouse in Northampton. She contributed to the online Great Buffy Rewatch on Nikki Stafford’s Nik at Nite blog and has reviewed television horror for the Twisted Tales website and blog.

  • Lorna teaches Film and Screen Studies and Media Production within the School of the Arts at The University of Northampton and also contributes to the MA English (Contemporary Literature). She teaches on several modules including:

    • MED1073 – Studying Television
    • MED2078 – Researching for the Media
    • MED3037 – Science Fiction
    • MED3017 – Global Television 

  • Lorna has published widely on film, television and popular culture during her career with particular focus on the following subject areas:

    • horror, science fiction, the vampire
    • cult television
    • genre and representation
    • television drama

    Current research projects:

    • The Cult TV: TV Cultures Network is an AHRC-funded project addressing the Digital Transformations in Arts and Humanities theme. Over the course of its 18-month funded period, The Cult TV: TV Cultures Network will explore the ways in which television has taken on aspects once primarily linked to ‘cult television’ in order to encourage engagement and immersion from consumers beyond weekly television programming.
