Overview


Through autonomous learning, students on this module will build critical analysis skills to synthesise research philosophy and methods to design a research project that addresses the needs of current or emerging Health and Social care populations.

During the module you will investigate the purpose and philosophy of research to inform evidence based practice. This is alongside exploring ethical principles, the practice of qualitative and quantitative research design, and literature review methodologies.

Research Methods: Philosophy and Study Design can be taken as a stand-alone module, or as a package of modules, to build towards MSc Public Health and MSc Advanced Occupational Therapy.

Entry Requirements


The University’s general entry requirements apply. Applicants would normally hold an undergraduate degree and work within a health and social care environment.

Course Content


  • Teaching approaches are varied, using an active-blended-learning approach that includes lectures, interactive group work, online learning activities and enquiry based learning.

    The assessment strategies for this module are in the form of coursework with a critical review of primary peer reviewed research and a proposal of contemporary research.
