We’re supporting Shakespeare’s Scottish Play project

The University of Northampton is backing a project which will see disadvantaged children help to create a feature film version of Macbeth.

Screen Northants is producing the feature-length film adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play, with the project designed to boost people’s well-being, increase life and work skills, and help bring diverse groups of the Northants community together.

Screen Northants is inviting Northants residents of all ages to volunteer with them on the film and behind the scenes documentaries. They particularly want to hear from young people, aged 10 to 18, who have faced adversity in life, such as a period in care, being excluded from school or having special educational needs, but the scheme is also open to a much wider demographic. People taking part will work under film professionals in the pre-production and production on the set of Macbeth for 20-60 hours between now and September.

The project has has seen Screen Northants put out a call to 50 businesses to donate services or £1,000 funding to help raise £50,000 to add to £105,000 it has already received from BBC Children in Need.

Becky Adams, Director of Screen Northants says, “When I was growing up in Northamptonshire I thought you had to leave the county to do something big with your life. Now I’ve come back and set up Screen Northants, I know that isn’t true, and I want to use film to make sure no other young person feels the same way. We need 50 companies to help us raise £50,000 to add to our BBC Children in Need total. We’re extremely grateful of the support offered by the University of Northampton.”
