Student podiatrists encouraged to step into the right career with leading UK professionals

Date 6.09.2017

Podiatry students will get the expert’s view about their career options with the first conference in England of a leading medical body, hosted by the University of Northampton.

The Royal College of Surgeons Glasgow’s (RCSG) Faculty of Podiatric Medicine are inviting undergraduates from across England to understand the range of roles they can specialise in once qualified, for the event to be held on 18 October 2017.

Senior representatives from all branches of podiatry will be on hand talking about these areas students can work in, including:

  • The career journey of a podiatrist
  • Academic research
  • Working in private practice
  • Musculoskeletal podiatry (MSK)
  • Podiatric surgery
  • Diabetes
  • Sport medicine.

Students are being invited from podiatry schools in Northampton, Brighton, Southampton, Plymouth, East London and Birmingham Metropolitan.

Dr Paul Beeson, Senior Lecturer in Podiatry at the University of Northampton, will be one of the speakers: “I’ve worked in podiatry for just over 30 years and had the opportunity to try my hand at several specialist areas in that time. But some sign-posting about the options available while still studying would have helped immensely.

“This conference will showcase how podiatrists fulfil many remits, for the ultimate wellbeing and care of their patients. We look forward to helping steer the next wave of podiatrists in the professional direction that is right for them.”

Overseeing the entire conference is Professor Emeritus Robert Ashford, the Dean of the Faculty of Podiatric Medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons. He added: “We are very grateful to the University of Northampton for hosting the conference and whose pedigree as a training provider is known across the sector. Podiatry students should sign up and not miss the excellent opportunity to give their futures a head-start by listening to some of the best professionals in the land talk about what they did.”

The event, which will be held on Wednesday 18 October 2017 in the Grand Hall of the Newton Building at our Avenue Campus, will also showcase the benefits of becoming a member of the RCGS’ Podiatry Faculty.

Tickets are £5 per attendee and can be booked online at rcp.sg/UGPODS, by calling 0141 465 7280 or emailing stephanie.beattie@rcpsg.ac.uk
