Shoetown Sounds is the brainchild of Creative Writing student Rachel Schouten, who also presents The Monday Night Show on the University’s community radio station NLive.

The inaugural gig night in September drew music lovers to The Lab, in Charles Street, to see five local acts take to the stage, with the performances broadcast live on NLive.

It returned to The Lab on Saturday, with comedian Chris Harris joining musicians Dan Hughes, The Ginhouse Gypsies and headliner Corinna Jane on the bill – and Shindig DJs spinning tunes throughout the night.

Rachel said: “The gig was once again a wonderful example of the quality of music we have here in Northampton. All of the acts that performed sounded great, including our graduate Chris Harris, who put a big smile on everyone’s face.

“The Lab did well on the bar, the bands had a good time, the DJ spun some awesome vinyl and everyone who turned up and tuned in enjoyed themselves. Ultimately, NLive connects Northampton’s community with the local music scene, which is what Shoetown Sounds is all about.

“We can’t wait to do it again soon.”
