Reverse Advent Calendar results in chockablock food donations

University of Northampton staff and students raided their kitchen cabinets as well as their closets to support a local food bank.

Donations have been collected throughout most of December as part of a Reverse Advent calendar project organised by the charity Re:store.

Re:store are a charity that helps people facing hard times either by donating emergency food parcels, or helping them to grown their own produce and to source and prepare more economic meals.

They asked that for each day throughout December, people collect a specific item to donate that can be used throughout the year by the people they support.

This resulted in University of Northampton collecting six boxes stuffed with goodies from tinned groceries, festive chocolates and even socks and jumpers.

Lisa Irons (Student System Analyst) and Natasha Bayes (Research Assistant) with the food haul donated by University of Northampton staff and students.

Items will go toward Re:store’s ‘Big Give’ event, to be held this Saturday at their Sheep Street office in Northampton.

Natasha Bayes, Research Assistant at University of Northampton, said: “The amount of food and extras given by our staff and students has been wonderfully unexpected. A big thank you to everyone who gave food, time and effort to people in need; we really appreciate it.”
