Party songs and awards for the latest crop of brilliant nurses

There were party songs and awards all around yesterday as the latest Adult and Mental Health nurses celebrated the end of three years of studying.

After getting an update about what next steps they have to take next before hitting the wards, including getting their ‘PIN’ numbers to practice as nurses from their regulator and how to tie-up their last few days with the University, it was on to the important business of the day – receiving trophies and presents for a job well done.

The awards went to those students who best exemplified the Be Brilliant initiative at the University…and who wore the funkiest shoes to the ceremony, that prize going to James Cooper.

And the winner is…James Cooper’s red pumps.

Dean of the Faulty of Health and Society Dr Steve O’Brien gave the main congratulatory speech, welcoming the students to the world of nursing and imparting a few words of wisdom from his own time as a nurse: “Nurses will always remember your student days, but will soon find that every day is a school day. Even I am still learning new things up to this point in my career.

“My advice to our latest nurses is remember to always Be Brilliant, the ethos that underpins everything we do in nursing at University of Northampton.”

This cohort of nurses will graduate with a ceremony at the Royal and Derngate Theatre in July.
