Cyclists get in gear for annual Silverstone Bike Ride

Silverstone Circuit will be swapping turbochargers for tubeless tyres in May – as a local charity gears up for its seventh annual charity bike ride.

The charity event, held at the home of the Formula One British Grand Prix on Monday 7 May, is combined with a family fun day – with all proceeds going to Northamptonshire Parent Infant Partnership (NorPIP).

Cyclists will get the chance to follow in the footsteps of motorsport legends by cycling around Silverstone’s 3.66 mile long Grand Prix circuit.

The event is organised by students from the University of Northampton, with the target amount set this year at £12,000.

The event helps raise awareness and funds for NorPIP, a Northamptonshire charity which offers support to parents to be and parents with children under two to help form stable family relationships.

Amelia Davey, co-organiser and third year BA Events Management student, said: “The event was an enormous success last year and the team are on track to make it even bigger and better this year. Two of the team are even taking part in a tandem sky dive in Brackley on 28 April to help raise funds to make the event even more amazing. Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or just fancy a ride around the track, it is just a great day out and all for an amazing cause, so we hope to see you there!”

All riders must be aged seven or over and must wear safety helmets in order to access the track. Tickets start from £15 for adults and £5 for children and can be purchased on Eventbrite.
