Overview
This International Banking and Finance Top Up Degree is specifically designed for holders of HND qualifications or similar UK and international qualifications. The award allows you to gain a full honours degree in one year.

Entry Requirements
Your application for the top-up international finance and banking degree will be considered if you have successfully completed the first two years of a relevant business, economics, accounting or finance degree, or HND (or equivalent overseas qualification such as the Chinese Dazhuan).

If you hold a qualification at Level 5 or above in a relevant area, your application may also be eligible subject to a satisfactory module mapping.
In addition, you should hold Mathematics GCSE at grade C/4 or above or equivalent.

This is a research driven international banking & finance programme focusing on contemporary issues within the challenging global banking and finance sector. You will gain up-to date technical and professional skills, through specially designed modules namely Contemporary Issues in Banking, Risk Management in Banking and a dedicated project in International Banking and Finance.
Please note the modules shown here relate to the academic year 24/25. The modules relating to the academic year 25/26 will be available from June 2025.

It critically analyses the attractions and limitations of doing business in a global market, identifying the additional inherent risks that global market exposure produces and strategies in managing the global firm.

Module code: ACC3019Status: CompulsoryThis module explains the place and importance of banking in the context of the global Financial Services industry and covers the practical aspects of international banking and financial markets. The focus is on the evolving structure and regulation of international financial markets, their role and importance to the world economies.

Contemporary Issues in International Banking (20 Credits)
Module code: ACC3026Status: CompulsoryThe purpose of this module is to develop students' understanding of the complexity of the international financial systems and the issues multinational banks face in different jurisdictions. The module will cover historical and current developments towards the development of the `new' financial systems architecture and the challenge for harmonisation.

Module code: ACC3027Status: CompulsoryThe purpose of this module is to prepare the students for roles in treasury and risk management. Asset and Liability management is core to the sustainability of financial institutions especially banks, hence, this module focuses on the tools, techniques and models of bank risk measurement and management.

Module code: ACC4007Status: CompulsoryThe purpose of this module is to apply knowledge gained on the programme to carry out an independent project in international banking and finance. The focus is on the implications of environmental changes to the structure and performance of global banking groups.

How will I learn on the international banking and finance course?
For this international banking and finance degree course, you can expect taught study to be a combination of lectures, seminars and workshops and usually 16 hours per week. We recommend that you spend ten hours per week in self-directed study time.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment for the Banking and Finance Degree Top-up involve case-based reports, essays, exams and a research project. We place particular emphasis upon developing your skills in independent study.
