University to explore ambitious China Belt and Road initiative

Date 3.07.2018

A University of Northampton Lecturer will speak on a panel of international influencers to discuss the potential of a revolutionary new China innovation.

Dr Shaowei He, Associate Professor in International Business, will be speaking at the First Cambridge Belt & Road Initiative (BRI) International Conference, set to be held at Cambridge Science Park on 5-7 July.

The conference, organised by One Belt One road (OBOR) International @ Cambridge, will gather leading global figures in International Business and Development to discuss the future of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

BRI seeks to expand maritime routes and land infrastructure networks connecting China with Asia, Africa and Europe, boosting trade and economic growth.

The basic themes of the conference will be centred on the five goals of BRI – international polices, infrastructure, finance, trade and cultural exchange.

Shaowei said: “The objective of this event is to exchange ideas on how the international community can play an active role in supporting developing economies in the 21st century via international peace, development and collaboration.

“Participating in the conference helps the University of Northampton to better understand the initiatives and the potential opportunities of BRI. BRI is the most ambitious initiative proposed by the Chinese government to date, which potentially offers enormous opportunities for UK institutions.”
