Daventry school benefits from University of Northampton’s furniture giveaway

Schools and charities have benefited from the University of Northampton’s move to a new campus, after it gave away more than 200 pieces of furniture that were deemed surplus to requirements.

The University’s relocation to Waterside Campus in September saw it close its old Park Campus in Kingsthorpe and part-close its St George’s Avenue site.

Unwanted furniture from the old sites, including tables, desks, chairs and filing cabinets, has been donated to 25 schools and two charities in Northamptonshire.

The Grange School, in Daventry, received tables, chairs and library seating, which are all being put to good use at its Staverton Road site.

Headteacher, Vicki Masters, said: “We have benefited enormously from the donation of furniture from the University of Northampton. We received lots of pieces of furniture that are in our classrooms and our shared areas around school.

“The children love their funky, coloured chairs and tables and our staff love the large pieces of library furniture that can seat a whole class at once.”

Tim Dobson, Head of Schools Engagement at the University, said: “It has been absolutely fantastic to be able to provide schools with equipment to improve their learning and teaching spaces, which we hope will have a positive effect on their children’s learning. The communication between the schools and the University throughout this opportunity has helped to strengthen our already very good inks with our county schools, which we are continuing to develop through our range of aspiration and attainment raising opportunities.”

Daventry Hill School also received some furniture from the University.
