Course Content

  • This is a 20 credit, level 7 module which utilises an active blended learning approach; with course material delivered in six taught days on Tuesdays across June and July. Teaching will have a problem-orientated focus, with case scenario development a central theme to support the development of diagnostic reasoning skills and facilitate the attainment of the module assessment criteria.

Students will develop their physical examination skills within our onsite clinical skills facilities and subsequently have the opportunity to practice these within the context of patient assessment scenarios under supervision with facilitator and peer feedback.

    Module content will include:

    • Review of anatomy and physiology pertinent to minor injury.
    • Consultation and history taking skills.
    • Physical examination skills pertinent to minor injury.
    • Informed diagnostic reasoning, critical decision making and record keeping.
    • Exploration and critical appraisal of evidenced bases management strategies.
    • Age related considerations.
    • Professional, legal and ethical responsibilities.

Registrants are required to undertake two methods of assessment; structured and timed case-based assessments in addition to a 3000-word portfolio. To successfully complete this module registrants must achieve the minimum pass threshold for both elements of assessment.

Assessment and Management of Minor Injury can be taken as a stand-alone module or part of MSc Advancing Practice award; Postgraduate Diploma in Advancing Practice; Postgraduate Certificate in Advancing Practice or MSc Advancing Practice (Top-Up).
