The University of Northampton is launching an esports course in September 2021, subject to validation.
To celebrate, we’ve teamed up with Northampton Town Football Club to put on a FIFA football video games tournament.
Preliminary trials were held at Town’s PTS Academy Stadium, on Wednesday 28 October. This was to select a student team, who were originally set to face Northampton Town’s esports team on Wednesday 18 November. The event has now been put back to 2021, with a date to be confirmed. watch the video below
Scott Bradley, the University’s Deputy Subject Leader in Sport and Exercise, said: “The event unearthed a few hidden gems – I was amazed by the focus, determination, and skill level displayed by all the competitors. Northampton Town’s PTS Stadium provided the perfect stage for the event. I am looking forward to the match up between team UoN and Team NTFC for the esports FIFA final.”
“The event was a big success,” said Charlotte Hyams, marketing & events coordinator for Northampton Town.
“We are looking forward to seeing the club’s esports team against the University’s esports team when they take on each other – that is a match up we are all looking forward to!
“This is an exciting time for esports in Northampton. As a club, we are expanding rapidly in to the esports world, while the University’s new degree will, I am sure, prove very popular.”
