Staff Profile

  • Naomi is a Senior Lecturer in Social Care at the University of Northampton.

    Naomi graduated with a BA(Hons) in Applied Social Studies in 2012, with a dissertation focus on the inclusion of pupils identified as having social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. Her passion for an exploration of how individuals’ identities impact their educational experiences developed from this undergraduate project. Her interest in equity and inclusion also developed from roles working in educational exclusion units and different social care services. 

    Before joining the University of Northampton in 2019, Naomi worked as a college Lecturer in London and Hertfordshire teaching Health and Social Care and Childcare on BTEC, CACHE and HE Access courses. 

    Naomi is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and in 2023 received recognition in the receipt of an Academy Award as a Champion for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.

    Naomi is the Chair of the Race, Ethnicity and Cultural Heritage (REACH) network at the University of Loughborough for staff and doctoral researchers from racially minoritized groups.

    In addition to her academic role in Northampton, Naomi provides consultancy work in her areas of specialism for Advance HE, The Diversity Trust and is the Founder of Let’s Talk Racial Identity ltd.

  • Naomi teaches across the BA (Hons) Social Care and Community Practice and BA (Hons) Health and Social Care Practice.

    Naomi supervises undergraduate dissertations on the topics of trauma, mental health, racial and social injustice.

  • Naomi is currently completing her Doctoral research with Loughborough University, which is funded through the Centre for Doctoral Training on Unequal Academic Citizenship: Opportunities and Barriers to Participation and Inclusion of Cultural Diversity and Intersecting Identities in Higher Education (CITHEI). 

    Her research focuses on elevating the voices of Black women working in University roles, across both academic departments, professional services and other roles. Her specialism is in Anti-racist practice, race, and gender equity. She conducts research through a Black Feminist, decolonial lens and is a mixed method researcher.
