Christine started her health and social care career being a volunteer at a social club for people with learning disabilities. This led to gaining a social work qualification and working with adults with mental health needs for over a decade. Christine took the opportunity to use her knowledge around mental health to move into learning and development within a Local Authority and working with a voluntary organisation focusing on Black people experiencing mental illness. Moving on to working at a regional level, concentrating on the workforce development for health and voluntary organisations, Christine became aware of the complexities, policies and systems that drive recruitment and retention. The move to focus on adult social care workforce working with managers, workers, service users and other stakeholders generated opportunities to make a difference that impacted on people at all different levels.
