The Podiatry Clinic
The University of Northampton is proud to have its own thriving Podiatry Clinic that is specifically for the education of our Podiatry students. The clinic is a short walk from the Waterside Campus and is on the site of the Northampton General Hospital with which it has close clinical links with services such as Orthopaedics, Dermatology, Podiatric Surgery, and Paediatrics.
This bespoke clinic enables the academic staff to teach clinical skills with a clear link to theory at a level that is appropriate for the student. Patients attending the clinic are willing to be engaged in educational activities such as student exams, group teaching, and research projects (under appropriate ethical approval). Students benefit from a high level of hands-on practical exposure in this clinical facility which is not always possible in placement-only models of podiatry education. The patient caseload comprises self-referrals, GP referrals, hospital department referrals, sports club referrals and has a long-standing reputation for clinical excellence in the area.
The clinical facility is in addition to an extensive range of clinical placements and has clinics aligned to the theoretical modules of Podiatric Medicine, Orthopaedics, The At Risk Limb, Paediatrics, and Sports Medicine. The clinical teaching in these areas is provided by the academic staff who are able to link class-based activities to clinical sessions.
