Liam Crossman
Long-distance running
“The first time I properly ran was about a year and a half ago.”
Liam Crossman is debuting in a National cross-country event and is hoping that he can achieve a fast enough time that he qualifies for the Great Britain team. Not exactly a sentence you think you would be writing about someone who only started “properly running” about a year and a half ago.
So Liam has gone from never competing in running two years ago, to now basing his further educational studies on where the best places to run are.
Before Liam attended the University to study Interior Architecture and Spatial Design, there wasn’t an Athletics Society, but since he has helped organise and set one up, the new Society has had interest from between 50 and 70 students.
But before Liam found his love for running, he was a County badminton player for Oxfordshire.
While being interviewed, he explained how he started running:
“My brother went through a weight-loss journey, and it was the brother thing of ‘let’s go for a run’.
“All through the last year and a half, we’ve been competing against one another.”
He explained what he finds so addictive about running:
“I find it my escape, I get out and everything goes away.”
Liam then spoke about why he choose to study at the University of Northampton:
“I wanted somewhere smaller, I didn’t want to go into a big city life.
“From the campus, you can get out into the countryside in five minutes, it feels like being at
home.”
