Attending a university open day is a great way to learn more about your university options and the courses that interest you, should you be interested in pursuing higher education and even a great day out with friends or family. It’s crucial to get ready before attending the university open day, so you can make the most of this amazing event opportunity.

Top 5 tips for an open day

Here are my top 5 things to do before attending a university open day:

1. Research the institution of interest

It’s crucial to conduct extensive study on the university and its courses before attending the open day. Visit the university’s website, familiarise yourself with the course descriptions and syllabi, and study reviews. You’ll have a greater understanding of the university’s strengths and specialties after doing this research, which will also enable you to choose the courses that interest you.

2.  Assemble pertinent questions

This is your chance to ask questions and get to know the university staff, lecturers, and what they have to offer. So, it’s crucial to have a list of questions you want to ask ready when you arrive. This could be enquiries regarding the curriculum, evaluation procedures, future career routes, extracurricular activities, or resources the university provides.

3. Organise your daily schedule

The majority of university open days will contain an itinerary of activities, including talks, tours, and question-and-answer sessions. To make the most of the chances at hand, you should schedule your day in advance. Try to give the sessions that matter to you the highest priority and allot ample time for each activity.

[University note: UON’s open day schedule is published on our website 3 weeks before each open day]

4. Converse with current students at institution

You can gain a valuable understanding of university life and the student experience by speaking with current students. They will provide you frank comments about the class and the university, including the calibre of the instruction, the social scene, and the availability of support services. You can use these insights to decide if the university is the best choice for you.

5. Get involved/ partake in activities

There will be many possibilities to participate in events and explore new things at the university open day. Spend some time exploring the campus, taking part in workshops, and attending talks. You’ll get a sense of what the institution has to offer from this, and you might even find a new hobby or interest.

In conclusion, visiting a university open day can be a great way to learn more about various university courses and explore your alternatives. It will make a great difference to your experience if you are having a well-informed conversation with current students about your study at the university, preparing questions, organising your day, and getting active.
