Award win for new job agency manager

A staff member’s career ‘wanderlust’ may be near an end, following an award from his peers for his new role.
Colin Redpath started work with the Unitemps Northampton team just before Christmas last year as their new Recruitment Franchise Manager.
Unitemps provides work opportunities with leading businesses, including part time, graduate, internships and permanent roles for students, graduates, and the local community.
His responsibilities include working closely with external businesses to develop the Unitemps Northampton agency and ensuring plenty of job opportunities for people on their books.
And the new job is very different to any he has previously had, as he explains: “Not only am I completely new to the University and higher education I’m totally new to recruitment.
“Before UON I sold intellectual property licences for a digital company. Prior to that, I drove coaches and worked as Technical Sales Engineer for a motor racing company. It’s fair to say I have a diverse work history!”
Colin has been in post for a little over six months now and is on his way to achieving his original mission to support young people get through the difficult process of finding a job. He adds: “I’d gone through some personal problems, and I thought if I can get through that, can I help people who want to get head start in life? This job is my way of giving back to others, and help them get opportunities experiences, opportunities, and the skills they need to go into big bad world and be a success.”
Some of the big successes for Colin and the Unitemps Northampton team this year include securing their biggest contract with logistics company Wincanton, relaunching their ‘Network and Chill’ events that link students and employers face-to-face and starting a podcast with NLive Radio with employers talking about the experiences and skills they are looking for.
It’s an approach that has captured the attention of the national Unitemps network – at their awards ceremony last week, Colin’s energy and passion saw him named their Newcomer of the Year.
Colin concludes: “I’m still completely and utterly shocked and blown away by the award. I’ve never won an award for anything in my life! I was nominated voted by people across Unitemps for some of the things I’ve developed, such as the podcast, so to have their recognition is incredible. I see Unitemps as more than just a recruitment agency, we’re about relationships and, although the award news still hasn’t quite settled in, it has got me thinking about what we can do for the next six months.”
