Liam Miles is a lecturer in Criminology. Prior to his appointment at UON, Liam taught Criminology and Sociology at Birmingham City University and Birmingham Newman University – where he contributed to the development of modules at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. Liam’s PhD research leans into Community based Research, with a particular focus on the Cost-of-Living Crisis and its effects on young people. Through this, Liam’s research has informed regional and local policy making across the West Midlands and he continues to have strong working relations with local authorities and local charity organisations such as the Birmingham Poverty Truth Commission. Liam’s other research interests involve the Political Economy of Crime, Youth and Community and social harm-based perspectives. Liam is an active member of the British Society of Criminology.
