Jitka Holubova
International Tourism and Events Management BA (Hons) *
- Year of graduation: 2019
- Current job title: Event Project Manager
- Current employer: IQVIA
I studied Tourism in the Czech Republic and, at the time, was not sure where my career was heading. I thought it would be a good idea to do a combined course, which would allow more doors to be opened when it came to finding a job, compared to the competition I’d have with other students. I found my ideal course at the University of Northampton, studying a Joint Honours degree* in International Tourism and Events Management.
My course highlights have been, my placement year, as well as the practical nature of the Events Management course and how it was delivered. If I was to offer any advice to future students, it would be to try as hard as you can during your studies. Find a part-time job, go for a placement year, and when working on your yearly events, try a different role every year (marketing, finance, production, team leader etc.) Even if you don’t like what you’ve experienced, it will help you to realise what suits your character and where you want to focus your career after graduation.
After my graduation in 2019, I opted for the events route and I’m now working in the pharmaceutical industry, as an Event Project Manager at IQVIA. My role also has links into the tourism industry, so has been an ideal move following my degree.
*UON no longer offers this joint honours programme, but you can study both tourism and events management on our Hospitality Management BA (Hons) course.
