Travis Perkins and Elsby and Co help students with career development

Local companies, such as Travis Perkins and Elsby & Co, attended a career development and planning conference on 16 December held by the University of Northampton to give their perspective on what employers are looking for when recruiting graduates.

A series of talks from the guest speakers were held in the morning, which centred on how students can make themselves more employable, how to use social media to promote themselves and their skills, and how to succeed in an interview situation. There was also a Q&A employer panel and students had the opportunity to take part in an assessment centre activity.

Hayley Henderson-Martin, Senior Lecturer in Human Resource Management commented: “The students attended the conference as part of their module and had the opportunity to network with employers from across Northamptonshire. They were also able to gain some valuable feedback when participating in an assessment centre task, which will be a great asset to them when they apply for jobs after they have graduated.”
