Please be aware that due to flooding around Northampton, we're advising students to check NILE about classes being held remotely and staff to work from home where possible. Keep an eye on our social media and website for more updates.

Finding Funding

Finding the right funder is crucial to your bid’s success, as each funder has their own priorities and funding criteria. Each bid will be scored against their specific requirements so even an excellent bid will be rejected if it does not relate specifically to what they are looking for. You will find it quite rare that a funding call is released that matches entirely with the project you had in mind, but being flexible in your ideas and approaches will allow you to adjust your project accordingly.

Funding Institutional

Funding Institutional (FI) is integrated with Pure and is a searchable database that combines over 33,000 active funding opportunities with information on over 8 million awarded research grants from a wide-range of funders. It is designed to help you find active, accurate funding opportunities from a wide range of research, government and private funding sources, and offers insight into research that has already been funded in your area of interest.

Funding Institutional allows staff to:

  • Search for funding opportunities
  • Find new sources of external grant income
  • Set up alerts to be notified automatically of new funding opportunities
  • Share funding opportunities with other colleagues
  • Export opportunities into your Pure profile account
  • Discover the most active funders in your research discipline
  • Analyse the award trend over the years for your search query

Getting Started

To get started, log into www.fundinginstitutional.com(FI) with your usual University login details and then click on Sign in via your institution (University of Northampton). To get started, click on the and use the Suggestions module Add a new researcher link to locate relevant funding opportunities for you or a researcher.

To get you started on your funding journey look at the Quick start guide and watch the introduction YouTube video below. The video does not have all the updated elements of FI, however it covers the main features to get you started.
