Transition to E-Visas

The Home Office will stop issuing BRPs for international students who submit a Student Route Visa application from 1st November onwards. Student visa applicants who apply on or after this date will be issued with an E-Visa if their visa application is successful.

What to do

New students Transition to E-Visas

New international students for the September 2024 or January 2025 intakes who apply for their Student Route Visa before 1st November 2024 may be issued with a BRP. UON will require these students to provide their BRP at enrolment for checking purposes. New international students who have been issued with a BRP will be contacted directly by the Home Office by email after arriving in the UK to convert their BRP to an E-Visa using a free of cost online process. For more information on E-Visas you can visit the government website. Please ensure that you complete this process when contacted by the Home Office so that you can properly evidence your immigration status in the UK.

Any student with a biometric residence permit (BRP) expiring on 31 December 2024 can now create a UKVI account and access their eVisa, without needing an invitation from UKVI to do so. For more information on E-Visas you can visit the government website.

Current students Transition to E-Visas

A significant number of current international students at UON hold a BRP with an expiry date of 31st December 2024 even though their actual visa expiry date falls after this date(please check your UKVI grant letter for the actual date your visa expires). Any student with a biometric residence permit (BRP) expiring on 31 December 2024 can now create a UKVI account and access their eVisa, without needing an invitation from UKVI to do so. For more information on E-Visas you can visit the government website.
