The Covid pandemic had a disastrous effect on sports and and new book co-authored by UON’s Professor of Sports Medicine Bill Ribbans looks at this. See his CNN interview with Don Riddle for more.

The skills of local artist Lisa Lovett have flourished into a newly launched pottery studio at Chester House Estate, thanks to the Heritage Impact Accelerator project, run through University of Northampton. Lisa’s story was reported by Northants Life, BBC Northamptonshire (online), and she was interviewed by BBC Radio Northamptonshire. Listen here (starts at 1hr and 53 mins).

Ahead of the General Election, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Leader of the Opposition Keir Starmer went head-to-head last night for their first, live debate. Summarising the action on BBC Three Counties this morning was Senior Lecturer in Journalism Kate Ironside. Listen again (starts at 1hr and 9mins). Kate was in demand following the announcement of the General Election on 4 July. Kate spoke to BBC Three Counties and other stations including Heart FM, Capital FM and LBC News.

Midwifery student Diana Sarkyova is in the Northampton Chronicle & Echo talking about attending this year’s annual meeting for The Florence Network and being part of the team developing and promoting the next, Europe-wide event.

The Northants Sings Out Choir – featuring UON staff and alumni – made it to the finals of Britain’s Got Talent, as reported by the Northampton Chronicle & Echo.

Games programmes students were given just three days to design and develop a game from scratch that could be played using a retro UON games arcade machine for the summer Game Jam, as reported by the Northampton Chronicle & Echo.

Journalism student Ben Grundy did the headlines review on BBC 5 Live with presenter Dotun Adebayo. Ben’s comments about the General Election and a story from the Financial Times about Israel’s airstrike on Rafah were also run by several other BBC local radio stations.
