New research from Senior Lecturer David Meechan and colleagues at Nottingham Trent University looks at the impact on the early years since a shake-up of the sector by the last Government. With increased numbers of children nurseries often ‘crowd control’ more than educate, as reported by The Observer and Nursery World.

Sport & Exercise Science student and SU Vice President of Activities Oscar Chapman featured in The Guardian giving advice about how new undergraduates can get fit when they start university.

Multimedia Sports Journalism graduate Will Oelrich has landed his dream job with his own segment on a BBC local radio station’s sports show, as reported by Hold the Front Page.

Other Journalism students gained great experience of reporting from large-scale sport events after covering the recent Tour of Britain, one leg of which came to Waterside campus, as reported by the Northampton Chronicle & Echo.

An LSE blog about research successes features as a case study a past UON project about 3D model-based ultrasonic testing for metal casting. This led to reduced waste, faster inspections, and cost savings for 17 Indian companies and the development of the University’s degree in non-destructive testing.

Martin Steers, Manager of NLive Radio studio – a University partner – appeared on the Radio Creators podcast. He talks about the community radio sector and the challenges and opportunities it faces.

Last weekend saw the University newest students arrive on campus to enrol ahead of the new academic year and Executive Officer Nick Allen’s welcome text message was read out on BBC Radio 2.
