Parents wanted! University of Northampton researchers search for parents with children under 5 to join review panel

A research project jointly led by the University of Northampton and University College London is looking to recruit more parents with children under five to join a parent review panel.

ASK SNIFF (Acutely Sick Kids Safety Netting Interventions for Families) is a programme of research that aims to develop video-based information resources to help parents identify signs and symptoms of acute illness in their children (www.asksniff.org.uk ). Parents do not want to bother healthcare professionals unnecessary but neither do they want their child to suffer because they have left it too late to seek help, which is why ASK SNIFF is so important. The programme is collaboration between parents and carers, Higher Education institutions, NHS Trusts and UK charities. The current phase of the work is funded by Well Child charity.

The information resource will focus on the six commonest symptoms of acute childhood illness;  body temperature, breathing difficulties, vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration and rash, and will deliver the interactive information through a webpage and as an app for a smartphone. The ASK SNIFF team are currently looking for parents to join their review panel to carry out online reviews of the structure and content of the first information tool for parents as it is produced. We are looking for parents who can help with some or all of the review process between January 2016 and May 2016; how much time each parent commits is entirely up to them.
