Staff Profile

  • Tracey first studied to become a Nurse at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London. A year after qualification she studied and qualified as a midwife from The Princess Anne Hospital in Southampton. Her interest in education directed her current professional role. Achieved Advanced Diploma in Midwifery and Post Graduate Certificate in Education of Adults at Surrey University. Followed this with an MSc In Professional Practice, HEA Senior Fellowship and currently studying for Professional Doctorate.

    Her thesis is ‘An investigation of Midwives practice when caring for women who have a normal birth in the lithotomy position.’

    Tracey Joined the University of Northampton in 1992. She has been programme leader for pre-registration midwifery programmes, Return to Practice (midwifery and Nursing) and Preparation of Supervisor of Midwives Programme. She has nine years’ experience as an External Examiner. Currently she is the Subject Lead for all Midwifery modules, a member of the LME UK Executive and reviewer for NHIR and BJN.

  • Tracey contributes to the teaching and assessing across the midwifery curriculum, levels 4-7. Currently her teaching is focused on Professional Issues (including Supervision of Midwives), Risk Management, Audit and Altered Labour Rhythms. She uses a wide range of learning and teaching strategies with an emphasis on the application to midwifery practice.  In addition, Tracey is dissertation/project supervisor for BSc and MSc Awards and a Mentor to staff for HEA Awards.

  • Tracey’s main area of interest is ‘woman centred care’. This is fundamental to her current research into the Midwives experience and decision making around the use of the lithotomy position for normal birth.

    She is currently co-author to a chapter ‘Rhythmic variations of labour’ to be published in Mayes Midwifery 15th edition; to be published in January 2017.
