Fine Art students receive high praise from the Royal College of Art

Six Fine Art students from the University of Northampton have had their work deemed as outstanding by Dr Melanie Jordan from the Royal College of Art in London.

Dr Jordan formally opened the Fine Art Spring Show, which was held at the University of Northampton’s Avenue Gallery from 18 to 23 March 2016. The event was organised and curated by the second year BA (Hons) Fine Art students and showcased the skills and research undertaken independently by each student. The two exhibitions ‘Chaos’ and ‘Ships on a Pond, not Ducks at Sea’ gave the students the opportunity to work collectively to present their work to the public.
Having viewed all their work, Dr Jordan particularly praised Lucy Brown, Christopher Daubney, Joanna Drewniak, Bekki Herbert, Jack Whitney and Kate Smith stating that they had shown professional understanding and practice in the production and presentation of the exhibition. All six have been invited to the Royal College of Art Final Show, where they will receive a guided tour and drinks at the Chelsea Arts Club.

Andrew Hewitt, Senior Lecturer in Art and the Public Sphere at the University of Northampton, commented: “Yet again our students have showed their mettle and worked together to put on two terrific exhibitions that they organised, self-funded, produced and displayed new work. It was a great achievement. Art production is a wholly a social activity that demands this level of collective working. During the module, they demonstrated considerable tenacity and commitment, qualities that will help them to establish their emergent artistic practices or in whatever career they choose when they graduate.”
