Gig honouring Viola Beach to feature University of Northampton graduate

A concert being held this Friday in honour of a band killed in a car crash will feature University of Northampton graduate, Meg Amirghiasvan.

Tragically, while on tour in Sweden in late February, all four members of Warrington outfit Viola Beach, plus their manager, died when their car ran off the road and into a canal.

Viola Beach had been due to perform at the Roadmender in Northampton on Friday 8 April alongside up-and-coming local indie rockers OhBoy!, who include Graphic Design graduate Meg on guitar.

The gig is now going ahead as a charity event held in Viola Beach’s honour, with all proceeds donated to their families.

“This gig means an awful lot all of us,” said Meg. “We didn’t know the guys in Viola Beach but it really hit home as this is something that could’ve happened to any band on the road.

“They were so young and had so much potential. We considered cancelling the show but decided that playing the gig in their honour and raising funds for their bereaved families was too important.

“We want to raise as much money as possible so we’re hoping it’ll be a busy night as I’m sure it would’ve been if they were there to play it with us.”

Supporting OhBoy! on the night will be fellow Northampton bands, An Army of Lights and Fox Chapel.
