Students enjoy a spellbinding lesson that’s fit for Hermione, Harry and Ron…

College-goers had a taste of student life – and Harry Potter potions – during a visit to the University of Northampton.

Sixteen students from Silverstone University Technical College (UTC) enjoyed a taster day at Park Campus, which saw them take part in a variety of events, including a Harry Potter-themed potion-making session.

“The potion making was a bit of fun for the students, and was loosely linked to our popular Events Management degree course,” said Justin Lance, Subject Leader in Leisure Management and Languages at the University’s business school.

“The potions, which were concocted from a combination of fizzy drinks and fruit juices, were for a fictitious Harry Potter-themed event. This activity demonstrated the importance of innovation, creativity and team-work, and the level of detail you need to consider when you are organising an event.

“The students really enjoyed devising their own recipes and coming up with stories about the potions’ magical effects.”

The taster day also saw the students take a tour of Park Campus, attend a talk about Higher Education and take part in sporting activities.

The University has been one of Silverstone UTC’s key partners since it was founded in 2013. Based at Silverstone Circuit Formula 1 race track, the UTC offers young people aged 14 to 19 the opportunity to specialise in High Performance Engineering or Business and Technical Events Management.
