University of Northampton lecturer has book published on the work of American author H.P. Lovecraft

Dr David Simmons, a Lecturer in American Literature, Film and Screen Studies at the University of Northampton, has just had his new book published which focuses on the work by American author, H.P. Lovecraft.

New Critical Essays on H.P. Lovecraft offers an exciting investigation of this significant writer’s works and influence. In the collection, a range of noted scholars, novelists and writers take a multidisciplinary approach, exploring Lovecraft’s life, his most beloved stories and his continuing presence in popular culture.

David commented: “This collection marks an important staging post of the critical reclamation of H.P. Lovecraft, the chapters therein reflect the most exciting work currently being done on the author and his writing, bringing together Lovecraft scholars from across the world to discuss the master of cosmic horror.”

The book has already received several strong academic recommendations. Darryl Hattenhauer, Associate Professor of English at Arizona State University, claims: “This anthology is the most significant book on Lovecraft ever written. Especially noteworthy are the elucidations of Lovecraft in relation to the female Gothic and in the context of popular culture.”

David has also published extensively on twentieth century American popular culture. His books include The Anti-Hero in the American Novel: from Heller to Vonnegut, New Critical Essays on Kurt Vonnegut, and Investigating Heroes: Truth, Justice and Quality TV. New Critical Essays on H.P. Lovecraft was published by Palgrave Macmillan on 3 July.
