Degree Show 2016: Jordan to exhibit his Graduate Fashion Week collection

Date 9.06.2016

The colours and tradition associated with bull fighting is the main theme running through 21-year-old Jordan Shield’s collection that was chosen to feature on the catwalk at this year’s Graduate Fashion Week and will be part of the University of Northampton’s Degree Show.

The shape of some of Jordan’s pieces have been heavily influenced by the curved edges of the bull fighter’s cape and he uses white and red throughout, with the red symbolising the blood shed from the bull at the end of the fight. He has enjoyed creating pieces from jersey, as well as more technical fabrics, such as chiffons and wool.

Jordan, who is from Daventry, said: “I decided to study at the University of Northampton because I was already studying for a BTEC in Fashion at Northampton College and I knew the University had a good history of fashion. It also made sense to stay local for financial reasons.

“I have made a lot of good connections during my time at Northampton and have done lots of great work experience, particularly with the Clothes Show Live. One of my pieces was even selected to front its national Bright Young Things campaign, which was a great achievement for me. I have also been fortunate to work with the British Fashion Council at London Fashion Week, as well as London Collection Men, which has been a valuable experience.

“After graduating, I am hoping to move to London and gain some experience in fashion PR before moving into the design side.”

Jordan was also chosen along with fellow student Madia Bostan, to be part of the Graduate Fashion Week Gala Catwalk Show, which saw their designs being exhibited in front of a prestigious judging panel that included Dame Vivienne Westwood.

Jordan’s work will be featured along with other students from a variety of courses from the School of The Arts at this year’s Degree Show. This will be running from Saturday 11 to Sunday 19 June at the University’s Avenue Campus.
