Employment success for University of Northampton graduates

Date 7.07.2016

For the fourth year running, 95 per cent of University of Northampton students are in work or further study six months after graduation* according to the annual Destination of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) data.

The University’s academic teaching brings real world experiences and insights to student learning through workplace and internships opportunities, academic projects based on industry briefs and exposure to guest lectures by industry leaders; giving students a competitive edge when entering the workplace.

Vice Chancellor, Professor Nick Petford said: “Our employability figure remains consistently strong. This is great news for the University and for all our students; whether new graduates, undergraduates or those still contemplating their further education options in this challenging economic climate.

“We know that our graduates leave us with more than just great qualifications in their chosen field. The Destination of Leavers from Higher Education statistics once again recognises our commitment to the employability prospects of our graduates.”

Graduate Emma Hilts – who graduated from the University’s BA Acting course – has seen her stage career take off. She is currently starring in Peppa Pig’s Surprise – a stage adaptation of the popular children’s television show which is touring the UK and Ireland. In it, Emma operates and voices a puppet version of the much-loved piglet, with a healthy dose of singing and dancing for good measure. The show, which included a month’s run in the West End over Christmas, rolled into the Royal & Derngate in Emma’s home town of Northampton

Matt Derrig, multimedia journalism graduate, was recently appointed media and marketing officer for League One, Northampton Town Football Club, after completing a successful two-year internship at Sixfields stadium.

“I really enjoyed my time at the University, and particularly the hands-on training I received as part of the Multimedia Journalism course,” said Matt.

“The assignments were really engaging, I had the chance to get out there and speak to people, build up contacts and the Uni’s close links with Northampton Town meant I was able to benefit from the internship with the club. Thanks to the experience I had gained on my course, I was able to adapt to the work quickly.”
