Alice Hynes appointed new Clerk to Board of Governors

12.11.2015Alice was Registrar at the University of Bedfordshire until last November and prior to that the Chief Executive of GuildHE, one of the two national representative bodies for Higher Education institutions.
Her previous appointments have included Academic Registrar at Kingston University, Vice Principal (Administration) of Dartington College of Arts – a performing arts HEI in Devon, Director of University Projects at the University of Liverpool, as well as Assistant Director at the Higher Education Quality Council/ QAA.
Although Alice has worked in Higher Education for more than 25 years she initially worked in the stock market, in retail management and then for a charity. Her first job in Higher Education was supporting staff development work at the University of London.
Alice is a Chartered Secretary, a Fellow of the RSA and the Association of University Administrators, a Freeman of the Company of Educators and a member of both the Association for Project Managers and the Institute of Leadership and Management. She has a professional qualification in Coaching and Mentoring, studied English as an undergraduate at the University of Exeter and holds an MA in Medieval Studies from Birbeck College University of London.
Speaking about her new role, Alice said: “It is an exciting time to be joining the University of Northampton – I am delighted to be playing a part in its response to the challenges ahead.”
Alice continues: “The effective operation of the Governing Council will be critical during these next stages of the development of the University and I look forward to supporting our governors in the expectations the University lays upon them. With my broad experience of higher education, I trust that I can provide a good connection between the Council and the University Executive staff team.”
