Enjoy a rare glimpse of one of the UK’s best poster collections

Visitors to the University of Northampton can enjoy a rare peek of one of the very best collections of posters in the United Kingdom this month.

A hand-picked selection of classic designs, drawn from the University’s Osborne Robinson Poster Collection, are now on display outside the Gallery, within the Maidwell building at Avenue Campus.

The renowned Northampton-born stage designer Thomas Osborne Robinson gifted his life-time collection of 2,000 posters to the institution in the 1970s, so that students at the-then Northampton School of Art could benefit from access to work by some of the great names of poster design.

Further donations have bolstered the collection, which now contains 10,000 items spanning the whole of 20th Century design, making it one of the largest and most varied poster collections in the UK.

Sixteen travel posters from the likes of David Klein, Richard Negus and Philip Sharland, will be on public display until Monday 19 September.

The full collection is open to students, staff and external researchers by appointment only, by email.
