University of Northampton International College to welcome first students
Date 21.09.2016
21.09.2016The University of Northampton International College (UNIC) will welcome its first students next week following its official opening at Park Campus yesterday.
UNIC is a pathway college for international students seeking access to Higher Education. An Associate College of the University of Northampton, UNIC will offer Foundation, First Year and Pre-Master’s programmes in a range of subjects and be run by leading global education provider, Navitas.
Students at UNIC will be assisted to transition into their University of Northampton degree through targeted English language, cultural, academic and pastoral support. Providing more direct engagement with tutors and smaller class sizes, UNIC students will develop the study and other skills they need to transition out of the college and into the broader second and third year programmes at the University of Northampton.
UNIC students have access to all the same facilities on campus as University of Northampton students, including the Students’ Union, library and learning resource centre, sports and social clubs.
With three intakes in September, January and May each year, students can start their studies to suit their schedules.
Navitas Chief Executive Officer Rod Jones said he was delighted to be welcoming the first students to Navitas’ 10th pathway college in the United Kingdom.
He said: “The delivery of Higher Education pathway programmes to international students has been at the core of our organisation since we opened our first college at Edith Cowan University in Western Australia over 20 years ago.
“Navitas looks forward to applying our experience and expertise to help support international students succeed in their university studies, while also working with the University of Northampton to enhance the already high standard of student education outcomes.”
University Vice Chancellor, Professor Nick Petford, said: “The University of Northampton has always valued the positive contribution international students bring to the campus. This partnership with Navitas will help us provide even more opportunities for overseas students to benefit from our educational offer.
“Integrated learning and putting students first is something we value very highly and I know has been a key focus for UNIC as they prepare for their first intake of students.
“It is an exciting time to be part of the University of Northampton and I am delighted UNIC will be joining us as we plan for the future.”
The University of Northampton International College was officially opened on Tuesday 20 September by the Mayor of Northampton, Christopher Malpas.
