Leading human rights campaigner to appear at the University of Northampton

Leading rights campaigner Peter Tatchell will be showing his support for victims of hate crime when he speaks at the University of Northampton next month.

The human rights activist, who hit the headlines in 2001 when he was beaten by bodyguards after attempting a citizen’s arrest of Zimbabwe’s President Mugabe, will appear at the University during National Hate Crime Awareness Week.

Proceeds from the event, which will see Peter talk about ‘The unfinished battle for LGBT human rights’, will go to the Northamptonshire Rights & Equality Council to help it support hate crime victims.

“We are delighted to welcome Peter to the University of Northampton for a fundraising event for the vital work of Northamptonshire Rights and Equality Council in supporting victims of hate crime,” said event organiser Melanie Crofts,

“Peter is an eminent human and LGBT rights activist who is also not afraid to express his opinions on matters such as animal rights, the Iraq and Syria wars, racism and Islamophobia, Islamic extremism and Gaza and the West Bank.  It is therefore an honour to have such an inspiring and well-known campaigner as Peter at the University.”

An Evening with Peter Tatchell takes place on Tuesday 11 October, from 7pm to 10pm, in room C126, Cottesbrooke building, Park Campus, NN2 7AL.
