Research Profile

  • Investigating the use of a Novel Green Manure to treat Replant Disease on Sorbus aucuparia

Replant Disease (RD) can have significant impacts on the production of rosaceous trees, such as apple, pear, cherry and rowan. RD is a chronic global issue caused by a complex of pathogens, which causes root destruction, limited canopy growth and insufficient fruit yields. Subsequent to 1993, the now revoked broad spectrum fumigant methyl bromide was successfully used as a control for this disease. In line with EU legislation, which emphasises the importance of green alternatives to chemicals, this research proposes the use of an antimicrobial Novel Green Manure (NGM).

This study is funded by the Thomas Harrison Trust.
