Professor Judith Sixsmith invited to join prestigious international science programme

Professor Judith Sixsmith, Director of the University of Northampton’s Institute of Health and Wellbeing, has been invited to join the Millennium Science Initiative (MSI); an international governmental programme which aims to encourage science and technology research.

The Initiative – which has a major presence in Chile, Brazil and Uganda – focuses on promoting and developing excellence in scientific and technological study.  The Initiative is also active on a smaller scale in a number of countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

Funding projects encompassing natural, exact and social sciences research, the Millennium Science Initiative’s programme committee is made up of outstanding researchers from around the world. Currently, the committee features 13 international world-class scientists who are divided into two commissions according to their areas of expertise; the Natural and Exact Sciences Commission and the Social Sciences Commission.

Professor Sixsmith has been invited to join the Social Sciences Commission, focussing on Chile. She explained: “This programme is part of the Ministry of Economy, Development and Tourism of Chile. As such, it is a great way of showing reputation in the world and how we are impacting the governmental processes of other countries.”

The Initiative also aims to increase the number and quality of scientists from developing countries, ensuring that countries can gain access to global knowledge to support both social and economic development.

Professor Sixsmith will attend an evaluation meeting in the autumn and a second evaluation meeting during the first quarter of 2018 in Santiago, Chile.
