Students to stage day-long event in support of Northampton Music Festival

Students from the University of Northampton are playing an instrumental role in supporting a major music festival.

Now in its tenth year, Northampton Music Festival has grown in popularity and last year saw 95 acts play across 18 stages, entertaining thousands of people across three days.

Despite being a major fixture on the town’s entertainment calendar, it relies heavily on volunteers and fundraising to get off the ground each year – which is where the group of Events Management students comes in.

Final year undergraduates Shannon Rowland, Loren French, Joey Man and Pavan Patel have organised a day of music, with all proceeds going to the running of the festival.

NMFusion will see 17 artists perform at The Charles Bradlaugh pub, in Northampton, on Saturday 22 April.

The afternoon session, between 1pm and 6pm, will feature live acoustic music, while the evening will see bands and DJ sets take over, from 7pm to midnight.

The afternoon line-up features a wide variety of Northampton talent, including Carly Loasby, Velvet Engine and students from the University’s Popular Music degree course.

Artists announced for the evening include Leo Robinson, EMPYRE, and Madame Electrifie.

Brian Harding, Chairperson of the Northampton Music Festival, said: “I was delighted to have been asked to be involved with the Events Management student group.

“Since October this group, together with their tutor Claire Leer, have been working solidly on a specially crafted event with the sole purpose of raising funds to help support the annual Northampton Music Festival.

“It is wonderful to see so many young and talented local musicians who are willing to perform at their special NMFusion day.”

Tickets are available for both the afternoon and evening event separately, or a combined ticket to both events can be purchased. Prices start at £6 for adults and £4 for children. Tickets are available from the website.

Doors open at midday, children are welcome to attend the afternoon session, but the evening session is for over-18s only.
