The Centre for Achievement and Performance launches the University’s first SOOC (Small Open Online Course)
Date 13.11.2015
13.11.2015SOOCs are similar to MOOCS (Massive Open Online Courses), but operate on a smaller scale. The University of Northampton SOOC has been developed by staff in the Centre for Achievement and Performance, alongside colleagues from Learning Technology and the Institute of Learning and Teaching have been developing and testing the SOOC throughout 2013.
The SOOC is aimed at current and prospective students who would like to enhance their academic skills. The course focuses on: essay writing, critical thinking, research skills and referencing.
Kate Littlemore, Head of the Centre for Achievement and Performance at the University of Northampton said: “CfAP provides academic skills support to all students at the University of Northampton. Some students access the CfAP resources regularly and really benefit from that interaction, in order open up the support and resources offered by the team to more students, we developed a suite of online courses. We will also be offering the SOOC to potential students as they receive an offer from the University in 2014.”
The pilot will be completed in early 2014 and it is hoped that the SOOC will then be offered to all students receiving an offer from the University in 2014 and beyond.
