Date 16.11.2015
16.11.2015Students from Daventry University Technical College (UTC) will start the New Year in a brand new state-of-the-art building, which is due to open on Monday 13 January.
The new building, located on Ashby Road, has been built to high environmental standards, with first class facilities designed to provide an engaging, interesting and project-driven curriculum. The first intake of students started in September 2013 and the UTC has been operating from the University of Northampton.
The UTC offers 14 to 19-year-olds an innovative mix of academic studies, technical learning, employer-led design projects and work placements based around specialisms in the areas of engineering, modern methods of construction or environmental sustainability. Students in Years 10 and 11 study up to nine GCSEs alongside a Level 2 technical qualification in either engineering or modern methods of construction. Students in Years 12 and 13 study a Level 3 technical qualification in either engineering or modern methods of construction, as well as a range of A/AS Level subjects.
The University of Northampton is working in partnership with Moulton College, Daventry District Council and Northamptonshire County Council to offer young people an alternative to the traditional learning experience.
David Edmondson, Principal of Daventry UTC, commented: “I am looking forward to welcoming the students to their fantastic new College. The building is outstanding and is testament to the hard work and dedication from all involved in making this a reality. The new building combined with the superb array of specialist equipment, exciting and integrated curriculum and wonderful staff, will provide a tremendous learning environment for current and future students. I would like to extend an invitation to all future prospective students and their families to visit the UTC on our open day on Saturday 25 January and hopefully join us in this innovative learning journey.”
