Sarah’s marathon effort helps to support those in need

Date 25.04.2017

A Master’s student from the University of Northampton pounded the streets of London to raise vital funds for a charity that’s close to her heart.

Sarah Lee entered the London Marathon to support Sense, a national charity that supports people who are deafblind, have sensory impairments or complex needs, to enjoy more independent lives.

She chose Sense because her 10-year-old son, Kai, has severe unilateral hearing loss and Sarah herself has hearing and sight problems.

Sarah, who is studying an MA in Special Educational Needs and Inclusion (Autism pathway), completed Sunday’s marathon in a time of 6hrs 57mins 25secs.

She said: “I had a brilliant time, the support on the marathon course was amazing, the local community were involved in the event and it was just a fantastic day.

“Sense was also brilliant, providing me with great support and being generally very helpful. I wanted to raise vital funds to support both children and adults.”

Sarah’s tutor, Prithvi Perepa, said: “This is an incredible achievement for Sarah and shows her determination.

“She’s has faced many challenges, and to stay focused and complete the marathon shows her passion for the cause she was representing.

“Doing the marathon to help a charity is typical of Sarah – after completing her undergraduate studies with us, she changed her subject focus for her postgraduate degree as she was keen to make a difference for people affected by autism.”

You can still donate money to Sense via Sarah’s fundraising page.
