The University’s first MOOC is due to start this summer

The University of Northampton is pleased to announce that its first MOOC (Massive Online Open Course) is due to run throughout the summer of 2014.

The MOOC was created by the Centre for Achievement and Performance (CfAP), with support from the Institute of Learning and Teaching and the Learning Technology team within the Library and Learning Services.

An interactive and participative course, the MOOC is designed to improve the academic skills and confidence of students, who are either new to or preparing for Higher Education. The course starts in early May and will last for eight weeks; requiring approximately three study hours per week. Students within the School of Health will be starting the MOOC in March.

Kate Littlemore, Head of the Centre for Achievement and Performance, commented: “After developing and piloting the MOOC throughout 2013, we are really pleased that the course will now be available to anyone within the University and beyond. This has been a real learning curve for us pedagogically and technically, and has been greatly helped by the support of the Institute of Learning and Teaching and Learning Technology colleagues. In 2014, we will be developing our second MOOC which will support learners at postgraduate level.”
