Critters and Chaos Makers: A tale of forgive or forget, penned by University of Northampton graduate
Date 11.05.2017
11.05.2017University of Northampton Graduate, Kelly Louise Jones, always dreamt of publishing her own book; now that dream has come true.
Starting her University studies at Northampton in 2010, Kelly put pen to paper, or finger to keyboard, throughout her English and Creative Writing course crafting her own distinctive voice as a writer. Testing her skills on various writing genres; including poetry, short stories, autobiography, biography, scriptwriting and writing for performance, she’s now well on her way to making it as a professional author.
Since graduating in 2013, Kelly’s successfully self-published her first novel, Critters and Chaos Makers, which tells the tale of two best friends at St. Bungle’s School for Insufferable Children. The book follows their journey of self-discovery as they battle for forgiveness before the end of the academic year, or risk being forgotten by all those they know and love.
Speaking about the experience of developing her voice as a writer, Kelly said: “The story is very Jim Henson-ish with a Neil Gaiman and Roald Dahl twist. Seeing the book in print and available for anyone to buy has been so satisfying, it made all the hard work well worth it.
“The way in which the English and Creative Writing course pushed me to explore my writing style was wonderful and really made me think about the way I developed my style as an author. I had the most wonderful time at the University of Northampton, I’d like to give my thanks to great teachers like Alan, Charles, Leigh, Kevin, and Philippa for their amazing lessons that I fondly look back on.”
Already working on another novel, with the working title of ‘The Original Chaos Makers’, Kelly has plans to take the series of novels to Comic Con in the future. She said: “So many passionate people gather there, and given its similarities to such fandoms as Labyrinth and Harry Potter, I think it’d be right at home! It’d also be great to meet readers/potential readers face to face too.”
