University of Northampton announces David Laing’s appointment as Pro Chancellor

Date 16.11.2015

The University of Northampton is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr David Laing as the University’s first Pro Chancellor.

David takes on the active leadership of the Court of the University of Northampton in the newly established role of Pro Chancellor, working alongside the Chair of Court, University Chancellor Baroness Falkner. The Pro Chancellor will be supporting the organisation and day to day operation of the Court and on occasion chairing its proceedings.

Vice Chancellor Nick Petford, said: “The University of Northampton has an ambitious programme of growth and development; David Laing has considerable experience in the construction and development industry, as well as established local connections. These attributes will bring further expertise to the University as we develop our plans for our state-of-the-art Waterside Campus.  David’s entrepreneurial background will further strengthen our ethos and dedication to providing our students with more than just a good degree.”

Commenting on his appointment, David Laing said: “I am fortunate that the role of the Pro Chancellor is new to the University of Northampton, this gives me the opportunity to define the role and the way it works with the wider University community, building on its reputation as a leading University.

“I hope to further develop the links and networks already in place within Northamptonshire to create a University at the heart of the economic and cultural development of the region.

“Looking to the future, I will be encouraging the Court of the University to focus its activity on enabling the University to offer the best possible in terms of facilities, teaching and learning opportunities and student experience; creating well rounded, motivated graduates who have the skills employers want.”
