Charly Jansson gets to the root of textile design
Date 16.11.2015
16.11.2015Charly Jansson, who is in the third year of the BA (Hons) Surface Design and Printed Textiles course at the University of Northampton, talks about her Final Major Project which was on display at the School of The Arts Degree Show.
“I have been completely inspired by natural dyeing for my Final Major Project, from colours used to the imagery created. I have looked at the surfaces and unusual properties of the many dyestuffs to create fabric outcomes that are simple yet stylish and modern with the hope for them to be translated to anything from fashion to interiors. For the Degree Show, my collections were presented with a much more interior feel as I feel there is a gap in the market for sustainably aware textiles for interio.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed the whole process of boiling up the dyestuffs and placing fabric pieces into the coloured water and seeing what colours are translated onto the fabric.”
Together with a selected group of third year students, Charly will also be exhibiting her work at the prestigious New Designers Show at the Business Design Centre in Islington, London, between June 24 and 27.
