New logistics centre for skills and innovation planned for Daventry

​​​Plans are being developed to provide a new skills centre in Daventry district. Under its working name of ‘Logistics Centre for  Skills and Innovation’, a site at Prologis RFI DIRFT has been identified as the best option for this new education and training hub serving the Midlands and further afield. The project is a fresh prospect for expanding and improving the education and skills offer in Daventry District and the surrounding area directly linked to industry.

The Centre is promoted by Logistics Skills Development Ltd., and who have the support of the University of Northampton. Daventry District Council and South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership are keen to see the idea develop into a bid to secure funding in 2015 using European Union money. The Centre would seek to fulfil a requirement of the Development Consent Order granted by the Secretary of State for DIRFT III and consequently has been agreed in principle by the landowners RRSLP and the site’s developers, Prologis.

The Centre intends to help employers find the right people and the training they need to increase productivity and growth. It will help individuals find the right skills, training and opportunities they need to begin and/or progress their careers. A key priority is to develop a Centre of Excellence to address the driver shortage for large goods vehicles.

The Centre would be housed in a fully-kitted out building within DIRFT III. The Centre will have all the logistics expertise, resources and up to date intelligence to advise and signpost employment, education, training and skills enquiries to the appropriate place.  Employers and individuals will be able to access information relevant to their needs.
