Date 16.11.2015
16.11.2015University of Northampton student Ashleigh Wise is one of the lucky future fashion designers who has won a place on a summer immersion programme to learn more about India’s manufacturing economy.
With a financial bursary from the University Centre for Employability and Engagement (UCEE), Ashleigh will spend the two weeks of July visiting Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Udaipur, Jodhpur and Delhi. She will be visiting fashion designer’s houses and studios to learn more about the country’s handcrafted textiles, manufacturers and new technologies.
She commented: “I am very grateful to the UCEE for the £800 bursary I received as it covered the cost of my flights and contributed to my visa and this was definitely a not to be missed opportunity! I am looking forward to the trip as I visited India last year with the University and I’ve been eager to return. I feel I will learn a lot from this programme which will be a great asset to my CV and my future career in the fashion industry when I graduate this summer.
Wray Irwin, Head of UCEE, commented: We are delighted to support Ashleigh and happy that she is able to take up this unique experience. I’m sure she will make a significant contribution to the immersion programme whilst benefiting from the opportunity to develop her skills.”
The Generation UK-India Cultural Immersion Programme is run by the British Council, the UK-India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI) and IndoGenius.
